Reunion in Turkey

The project reuinion in Turkey took place from 27th October to 1st November 2008.
We all arrived on Monday the 27th, met all our hosts and settled in.

On Tuesday we went to school to meet the staff and some pupils. After introductions, we started on the main project activity for the reunion which was to present lessons to each other and to the pupils involved. All the countries presented a lesson. All were completely different and the lesson materials and video will be available shortly. After the lessons, we sampled some typical Turkish snacks and cakes, provided by parents, before going for a tour around the city to get our bearings. We had lunch at a cable factory, followed by a very interesting tour of the factory. We then went to see round a furniture factory.

The 29th November is a national holiday in Turkey with parades and national celebrations. We went to see the parade in Kayseri and watched the school children, armed forces and police marching past. Later we went to visit Mount Erciyes and Sultan Sazligt Birds Paradise.

We went on a bus tour of Cappadocia and visited an underground city, a village cut into the stone, a pottery workshop and a carpet-weaving workshop. It was a very interesting and educational day.

We met the City Director of Education, the Governor of the province and the local mayor. After lunch we had some free time to have a look round Kayseri city centre and do some shopping before the reunion dinner at Kuranardi Selale. We left for home on Saturday morning.
We must thank our Turkish hosts for their fantastic hospitality, their kindness and the welcome we received from everyone we met.
